Bon Ami

Bon Ami (1220 E. Northside Dr., Jackson) costs a bit more than I usually pay for lunch. Still, it is only a bit more, and I felt that I got at least what I paid for, if not more.

The lunch entrees, at about $9-13, come with a house salad. I didn’t try it, but my buddy got this salad with his entree and it actually looked appetizing, which is so rarely the case with side salads. He enjoyed the house dressing.

And speaking of better-than-average salads, the main reason I plan to go back to Bon Ami is their extensive salad menu. It includes a spicy shrimp salad, a citrus salmon salad, and at least 5 others that sounded good. I ended up choosing the tuna nicoise ($12) on our waitress’s suggestion. The tuna was cooked to order at a nice rare (a gentleman at the next table even commented on how good it looked). There were plenty of olives and asparagus, plus a hard-boiled egg and some well-seasoned roasted potatoes, making it a hearty salad. The dressing was pleasantly sweet and complemented the other components well.

My friend got the ravioli with chicken and a spicy black bean sauce ($11). It was creamier and less spicy than we both expected, and we might have preferred more heat, but I enjoyed my bite and he cleaned his plate.
The menu options, solid execution, and attentive, friendly service made for a very pleasant lunch. The dinner menu is of course pricier than lunch but I’m willing to guess that that might be worth it as well. Does anyone who’s been there for dinner think so?
