T’Beaux’s Crawfish & Seafood
T’Beaux’s Crawfish and Seafood (369 W. Northside Dr., Jackson) is a Cajun seafood place specializing in crawfish. It’s the third of three locations; the other two are in Vicksburg and Clinton.

Inside is cute and colorful, with graffitied walls and a covered porch that wasn’t in use on the freezing rainy day we went.

Neither my boyfriend nor I had ever extracted the meat from a whole crawfish. After an iPhone google search and some trial and error, we got good at it and the deliciousness began. The seasoning was full of cayenne and had a good kick, but not so overpowering that I couldn’t taste the sweetness of the meat. Since it was my first boiled crawfish I have nothing to compare it to; I only know I can’t wait to have it again. It was more than worth all the crawfish juice that we squirted all over ourselves.

I know, it doesn’t make sense to order a burger at a Cajun seafood place and I certainly wouldn’t have judged them for it if it had been mediocre. I only ordered it in a moment of panic when they told me they didn’t have the Cajun ribs, our first choice. As it turned out, though, the burger wasn’t half bad. It was nothing amazing, and a bit dry, but it was well seasoned (this was a “Swamp Burger” with seasonings, peppers and onions cooked into the patty). Basically, I think it was good enough that you can drag non-shellfish eaters to T’Beaux’s and they’ll probably be happy as long as you don’t squirt crawfish juice on them. In the nonseafood department, they offer wings in addition to the ribs and burger.
As for seafood, the menu lists boiled crawfish, shrimp, snow crab, Dungeness crab, and combo platters, ranging from $9 - 14, and all served with boiled potatoes, half of a cob of corn and a piece of sausage. They fry things as well, including shrimp, oysters, catfish and pickles. I recommend calling ahead – (601) 364-5000 – to find out what they have that day if you’re set on something in particular. Last but not least, they serve beer for $2 - 3 a bottle. They’re open Tuesday through Friday, 11am - until.
