Openings Report

Posted by YAR 27 Jan 2010 6 Comments

People often ask me how I find new restaurants to try.  Most of the time I just drive by somewhere and stop. But I find out about brand new places because my awesome boyfriend wrote a program to look for new entries in the State’s restaurant inspection database.  From now on, I will post the new entries here so that you too can keep your finger on the pulse. If you make it to one of the new places before I do, please post a comment!

I saw the Rotisserie on Old Canton the other day- it is in the old Pig Out Inn/Nando’s location. I was wondering about it- that is kind of a famous name in Jackson for us old timers- could it be related to the original that closed many years ago?

I wondered the same thing, but they don’t seem to be related. I haven’t eaten at this one yet, but I went in to check it out–it was a cafeteria-style place offering rotisserie chicken and a bunch of traditional sides. I was hoping it would be a Peruvian chicken place and I’m not sure if it is–they do offer fried yucca, which I don’t usually see around here, so maybe there is some South American influence. Looking forward to checking it out.

This program sounds amazing. Thanks again for keeping us abreast of the growing food scene here in our town. I will try to make it out to BBQ Fever soon.

Great program. Nick’s is definitely in Jackson, in Fondren.

Good point, the database is not always completely accurate. For instance, I’m pretty sure “Gallation” (Club Zodiac) is not a real street, though it is a cool (nonexistent) word.
