This second location of Crazy Cat Bakers (the original is in Highland Village) is an outpost in the Fondren Corner building (2906 N. State St, Jackson).  It has no kitchen, and brings over baked goods and lunch items from the first location every morning.  The focus seems to be on baked goods, but I was determined to get lunch when I went the other day.  Though I liked my sandwich at the original location, I can’t say I was expecting a lot from a refrigerator of pre-wrapped sandwiches and microwavable dishes.  I was pleasantly surprised!

Most of the options here are soups and stews over rice or pasta, plus a couple of wraps — the specific offerings change daily.  I got the Bulgarian Beef Stew over egg noodles.  It was good, hearty, and filling despite not looking like a very large serving.  The spices were nothing special, though, and I very much preferred my coworker’s choice.

He got the Chicken Marbella, which was served over basmati rice.  It was chunks of chicken (something more flavorful than breast meat — maybe thigh?) with prunes and green olives. It was a delicious combination I’d never had before.

My coworker chose the cappuccino brownie from the display of baked goods.  It had a thick layer of fairly fluffy icing and the brownie was dense, with chocolate chunks.  I liked it, but he thought it was overly sweet and I have to agree it was not very subtle.  I preferred the orange brownie I got last time — those were offered at this location, too.

I like the fact that Crazy Cat II has some interesting and pleasant alternatives to the sandwiches, burgers, and super-heavy soul food that I’m usually choosing between for lunch, so I’m sure I’ll be back.  I’m not sure of the hours at this location, but you can call Crazy Cat at (601) 362-7448 to find out hours and the specials of the day.
