McDade’s Hot Breakfast
Everyone else probably knew this already, but somehow I only recently noticed that McDade’s has a hot bar at the deli counter. I heard a rumor that the breakfast* was an especially good deal, so I stopped at the Belhaven store (904 E. Fortification St, Jackson) on my way to work this morning.

The hot bar when I went offered scrambled eggs, biscuits, grits (cheese and regular), rice, gravy, toast, french toast, breakfast sausage, regular sausage, and bacon. I chose a biscuit, sausage, and cheese grits.

The biscuit was quite good, if a little greasy, and had a nice fluff to it. The sausage was solid and and a tiny bit spicy. The grits weren’t bad, though nothing special. Notably, it was just a good a deal as I’d heard: this fairly hefty meal cost $2.38. For an above-average breakfast bar the price is well below average—it might become a regular stop on my way to work, despite being a pretty unhealthy habit to get into.
* Breakfast isn’t served at the Northside location. I’m not sure of the exact hours, but the locations serving breakfast are:
904 E. Fortification St., 601.355.9668 2526 Robinson Rd., 601.353.0089 653 Duling Ave., 601.366.5273

Their lunch is one of the best blue plates in town (this is coming from a certified meat & three fanatic). I eat lunch there at least once a week if not more. They don’t have a regular weekly menu, though, so you never know what you’re gonna get. Which is part of the fun, really.
