Koinonia Coffee House

Koinonia Coffee House (136 S. Adams St, Jackson) is in a big yellow house on the edge of downtown Jackson. Inside, it is charming and pleasant, and is exactly the kind of coffee house I always looked for as a student: quiet, well-lit, and with plenty of comfortable places to study. There were two larger rooms with tables, but I preferred a side room that felt like a well-decorated living room and included this cute nook.

I apologize for going to a coffee house and not reviewing the coffee, but I drink my coffee with so much milk that I am no judge of it anyway. Instead I had one of their specialty smoothies, the Bengal — orange cream with chocolate “stripes.” It was delicious, and despite having told myself I’d just have a few sips, just to try it (for the blog) I ended up nearly finishing it.

For my lunch I had the Apple Cider Chicken Salad Sandwich ($5.95 half, $7.50 whole), which comes with chips, salad, or veggie sticks. The chicken salad included small chunks of apple, which made it light, crisp, and slightly sweet. I enjoyed the sandwich, and I am always happy when I find good options for a slightly lighter lunch (canceled out by the milkshake in this case, of course).

Koinonia also offers breakfast (including Belgian crepes, which I’d like to try) and some good-looking baked goods. It’s open Mon-Thurs 7:30am - 7:30pm, Friday until 6pm; the number is 601-960-3008.

My friend Deborah recommended the BLT to me - which is under the breakfast stuff…and it is very good! It’s a big sammich. She always gets it with provolone and cucumbers, which I tried. Maybe sound odd but I scarfed it up.
I was wondering about the Belgian waffles, too. Next time!
