Taqueria Guanajuato

I went to Taqueria Guanajuato (1651 Terry Rd, Jackson) within hours of it showing up on the Restaurant Openings Report — I do love tacos!  I’m glad I made it there so quickly, and I’ll be going back often.

The taqueria is a sit-down restaurant, with plenty of booths and a nice, friendly atmosphere.  I was immediately given chips and some very spicy salsa.
For my meal, I ordered four tacos: al pastor, chorizo, asada, and barbacoa.  When the fixings for my tacos arrived at the table, I think I said “wow” …

Taco Truck! ( ___ FOODS)

Taco trucks are one of my all-time favorite food-related phenomena–mostly because there is something magical about eating out of a truck, but also because I’ve also had some of the best tacos of my life out of them.  So I was pretty excited to hear that there was a taco truck parking outside the construction site of the new courthouse downtown (Court Street, between Congress and West).  It was my first eating-from-a-truck experience in Jackson–and I have lived here for almost 8 months now, so it had been way too …

Omonia Deli & Bakery

Naysayers told me before I moved here that I wouldn’t find good Latin American food in Jackson. But I’ve already had great tacos and pupusas in the area, and now I’ve found empanadas, so I’m pretty much golden.

Omonia (1290 E. County Line Road, Ridgeland) is a Mexican/Colombian deli and bakery that must have very recently replaced a Quiznos, as you can see from the sign. This is Omonia’s second location; they also have a spot in Pearl (466 N. Bierdeman Rd.) that I haven’t tried. I’m just glad they were able …

La Morena

I am so happy to have found good tacos Jackson. They’re at La Morena (6610 Old Canton Rd, Ridgeland)–the third taqueria in Jackson that I’ve tried and by far the best.

The tortillas were definitely freshly made–I’m thinking within a minute of being laid on our table. As soon as I saw them I knew that this was the place.

I got two tacos ($2 each): al pastor (spicy pork + pineapple) and chorizo. Both meats were as freshly cooked as the tortillas, and were full of little bits of blackened goodness. …

Pupuseria Genesis

Pupuseria Genesis (227 George Wallace St., Pearl) wasn’t easy to find–I’ve been looking for it since I first heard a rumor about a taco truck called “Genesis” a few months ago. Google, for once, wasn’t helpful. I thought I’d gotten my big break when I saw the truck itself on the highway one day. There was a phone number on the truck…but it only had 6 numbers. And I was on my way back to work, so I couldn’t really chase it down.
So I went farther into the net and …
