Naysayers told me before I moved here that I wouldn’t find good Latin American food in Jackson. But I’ve already had great tacos and pupusas in the area, and now I’ve found empanadas, so I’m pretty much golden.

I am so happy to have found good tacos Jackson. They’re at La Morena (6610 Old Canton Rd, Ridgeland)–the third taqueria in Jackson that I’ve tried and by far the best.
The tortillas were definitely freshly made–I’m thinking within a minute of being laid on our table. As soon as I saw them I knew that this was the place.
I got two tacos ($2 each): al pastor (spicy pork + pineapple) and chorizo. Both meats were as freshly cooked as the tortillas, and were full of little bits of blackened goodness. …

Pupuseria Genesis (227 George Wallace St., Pearl) wasn’t easy to find–I’ve been looking for it since I first heard a rumor about a taco truck called “Genesis” a few months ago. Google, for once, wasn’t helpful. I thought I’d gotten my big break when I saw the truck itself on the highway one day. There was a phone number on the truck…but it only had 6 numbers.
